FOR THE SMALL GROUP LEADER…
Thank you for doing what you’re doing! Small groups are an essential component of true Christian community. Your work is important. As a small group leader and trainer for over 7 years, here are the things I struggle with the most:
Choosing studies with staying power - there’s nothing worse than starting a 6-week study only to find there’s only enough depth for a couple sessions.
Filling time between studies - I often need one-off studies to fill gaps between longer studies. This need typically arises around summer or Christmas breaks or when I know my attendance will be light.
Facilitating exercises that build intimacy and create unity - my ultimate goal as a group leader is to encourage spiritual growth in each individual. Part of that growth comes from feeling comfortable within the group community. Periodic exercises help.
